Shella Parry makes beautiful pottery. Her studio is tucked away on a humble residential road in Clevedon. But behind the ordinary exterior, extraordinary things are being made in clay.
A Creative Kick
Shella uses a traditional kick-wheel. The clue is in the name. It's a potters' wheel, which is entirely 'leg powered'. No electric hook-up for Shella, she's had her kick-wheel for 30 years and it's still going strong.
The pure physicality involved in the crafting process means that every piece is completely unique. Every mug, cup, bowl or soap dish is full of the energy and vibrancy of Shella's creativity and skill. When you hold one of Shella's creationsYou can almost feel the pottery process, when you hold one of Shella's creations.
Her glazes vary from deep natural hues to glossy neutrals. And she uses a variety of techniques to create geometric designs or more fluid strokes.
From her gorgeous and hard-working studio, she throws each piece by hand. A few feet away, her small flock of chickens keep her company in the back garden. Not only is Shella incredibly talented, but she's incredibly lovely.
Every item is a work of art and we are proud as punch to have Shella on our list of makers for PURE SOMERSET HAMPER Co.
